The purpose of this portrait project is to tell the stories of women who have pursued athletics as adults, and who have gone on to accomplish a noteworthy goal in their sport, for example by completing an endurance event, winning a title, or being part of an undefeated team. Playing sports in school is one thing, but playing while working, raising a family, and navigating a busy life shows a different level of commitment.
To tell their stories, the photographer is making portraits of these athletes in their sporting environments. In addition, participants are being asked to respond to a series of exploratory questions such as:
* What motivated you to start your sport? Was there an event in your life that inspired you to initiate it?
* What challenges did you face in your sport and how did you overcome them?
* What was your first major accomplishment and how did it make you feel? Did it change the way you thought about yourself, and if so, how?
The resulting portraits will be displayed in a self-published photobook that shows the images and tells the stories of a diverse group of talented, determined, and fabulous women.
